Child's Anxiety Symptoms And How To Prevent And Cure Anxiety In Children

Reports are revealing that more and more children's are experiencing emotional and mental problems and it seems to be on the increase, in fact alarmingly figures have estimated that a staggering one in four children are being diagnosed with anxiety and depression.

There could be one particular reason for a child's anxiety or there maybe many factors that attributing to the rise in childhood anxiety, emotional issues which may include.

These days children are spending more time being stationary on digital devices especially the likes of video gaming where they are being bombarded by graphic action pact images which can produce a stress response where they are pumping their body full of adrenaline which activates the physical symptoms of stress and because they are sitting down relatively still they are not burning off all that access energy.

Because our children's lifestyles are changing they are not getting outdoors as much as they used to and they are not spending as much time engaging in activities and sports that give them exercise.

Children are not taught about how their thoughts, emotions and physical body are all linked together and they are not shown or helped on how to manage their emotions or how to problem solve.

Another contributor to the rise in child and adult anxiety and other emotional issues maybe down to not eating enough healthy good nutritious foods as more and more children seem to be having to much high sugary snacks, drinks and junk foods.

Although you cannot deprive them of having a few treats it can help to give then a varied but healthy balanced diet. Any form of stimulants like to much caffeine, sugar or leasure activities like video gaming can increase their stress and anxiety levels.

It can pay to encourage your children to ask questions and do some research when they have a difficulty to overcome rather than you doing all the research for them.

Many adults are now realizing the importance of reducing their stress and finding time to relax with things like hypnosis and meditation, but it is equally important to teach your children ways to relax so they can help to reduce their own anxiety, worry and stress.

Anxiety linked disorders is now one of the most common emotional conditions amongst children and adults today and the problem seems to be growing.

There is nothing more important than the happiness and well-being of your children and it should always comes before everything else in their life because the child who learns how to master their emotions will go on to live a much more happier and successful life but although the academic side of things is important they also need to learn life skills.

Reset Your Priorities

You may have to reset your priorities as regards to your children, yes it is important they learn and do well at school, but they can only do their best and it's not the end of the world if they don't excel to the standards you would like.

If your child feels pressurized to do well in their exams then this can cause them to worry to much about failing. The stress of disappointing their parents can lead them to feel anxious about not getting the high grades they are expected to get.

Far to many children are suffering with stress because of the pressures being heaped upon them to pass their exams with high grades. Children do not need all this pressure and long term stress leads to anxiety and depression.

The ironic thing is, when they are coming from a negative state they won't be at their peak performance best so it is too every bodies advantage to remain happy, optimistic but relaxed so therefore try and make their school work and learning enjoyable and fun.

This does not mean their exams and study are not important, but if you want your children to perform well then the best thing you can do for them is to keep them feeling relaxed and happy because when they are at ease and relaxed.

  •  They will perform better
  •  They will absorb information better
  •  Their focus and concentration levels will increase
  •  They will be more creative
  •  They will have a better memory and recall
  •  Increased intelligence

This means they will have a better chance of passing their exams and excelling at school if they are in the zone and free of the burdens of stress and anxiety. You will need to give them plenty of support and encouragement but avoid heaping any unnecessary pressure on them.

Encourage them to study but also make sure they are happy, content and having plenty of fun as well.

Try to avoid constant nagging, unnecessary shouting and criticizing your child all the time, each child is different and some can be more sensitive than others and it is important to bare in mind that children don't know how to deal with pressure, anxiety and stress.

How To Spot The Signs Of Anxiety In Children

It is very important that you know how to spot any signs and symptoms of anxiety in your children because it can affect the way that they perform and behave, so if they are showing signs of anxiety then it needs to be addressed and nipped in the bud straight away otherwise it will develop into a much bigger problem.

Look out to see if your children seem stressed or they are responding with panic in some situations. Some of the signs and symptoms are more easily detected than others. OCD and obsessive behavious could be a sign that your child is worried, stressed and anxious.

Their body and behaviours may reveal whats going on in their internal world, things like twitching, bodily ticks, signs of nervousness or restlessness are all give away clues. Sleeping a lot or having trouble sleeping are also signs of inner stress and anxiety as can their eating habits be.

An anxious child may suffer with socializing or certain social situations or events, you may find out that they want to avoid certain people or social situations. If they seem to have trouble mixing and joining in social activities or even if they are refusing to go to school can be another sign that your child is anxious.

A child who may have social anxiety may want to avoid social events, they will also dread answering or asking question in class and they won't like speaking in front of a group. They may also be quiet around their elders and have trouble making new friends or mixing with other children.

Their Moods Can Be A Tell Tale Symptom Of Anxiety

Anxious children may have mood swings, they will tend to be the pessimistic type where nothing seems achievable or possible to them, because of their poor self esteem they can think that they cannot do certain things. If your child has a lot of underlying stress, a negative mindset, insecurities or worries then this can manifest itself into developing a lot of fears and phobia's.

Children with anxiety may get angry a lot, they may come across as having a bad attitude and appear agitated all the time, you may find that they often get mad or take things out on their parents or be nasty to them, or they may go the other way where they seem to cry a lot.

A anxious child can appear to be a perfectionists and they may seek approval from others all the time, they will often come across as introverted and shy. If they do appear to be shy and introvert then they will need extra attention, help and guidance to build their self esteem and confidence and the first step to achieving this is to help them deal with their anxiety and fears.

There might be a trigger behind their anxiety and worries, this can be because they are not happy with their body or their looks, this is why it is important to teach your child how to accept themselves.

If they have been abused, bullied, neglected or picked on at school or emotionally bullied then this can lead to then suffering with anxiety, low self esteem and emotional issues.

Other Symptoms Of Anxiety In Children

  • Inability to concentrate
  • Moodiness and short tempered
  • They focus more on the negative
  • Temporary poor short term memory
  • Anxious and worry based thoughts
  • Low self esteem and confidence
  • Depression and general unhappiness
  • Skin conditions and spots
  • Nervous habits and even drug or alcohol abuse
  • Become isolated and withdrawn

Install The Foundations Of Confidence At An Early Age

The most important part of children's growth is to install self confidence into them at an early age, a confident and happy child will excel better at everything they do, they will also have less chance of being bullied.

Constant criticizing, nagging and nit picking by their parents can have it's toll on the child as can putting unnecessary stress and pressure on them. If your in a hurry and your children are taking their time try not to put pressure on them, it is far better to encourage them to get a move on.

Children need to feel loved and wanted, parents need time to pursue their own hobbies and interests, they also need time together as a couple but we also need to make time to listen too, play with and do recreational activities with our children.

Enrolling them in a martial arts class is one way you can help them to boost their self confidence. If your child appears quiet and shy do everything you can to help them to become more outgoing.

Be careful what you say about them even in jest as children can easily buy into others people's comments, if for instance you keep telling your child that they are shy then they will start to believe it and it will become part of their self image and who they are. The same applies if you call them stupid, thick or you tell them they are not worthy.

Teach Your Children About Their Thoughts And Their Emotions

Happy students are academically more successful, happiness influences your health to such a degree that you live longer so it is vital that children are taught how to deal with their thoughts, feelings and emotions. Many parents overlook the importance of telling there children about the importance of their thoughts and feelings.

Children need to know about their anxious and negative feelings and they need to know what causes them and how they can prevent them, tell them that they will get positive rewards for being positive.

It is important that they understand that sometimes they will experience anxious feelings so they should not worry about them because they have to realize that they cannot always stop the feelings from coming but they can choose to let them pass by peacefully without taking much notice of them.

Children should know that it is natural to feel times of discomfort and they should not feel to bothered by it, tell them that the less attention that they give to their bad feeling thoughts the less they will have them.

There is no point in telling your child not to worry, it would be far more helpful if you teach them not to take their negative thoughts so serious, it can also help them if you teach them to learn how to problem solve and look for a solution instead of spending all their time worrying.

Get them to reverse the worry what if thoughts to positive thoughts ones of what could be or teach them to imagine things going well and see themselves handling the situation how they would like things to go or be.

Instruct them that anxious feelings are important if there being threatened but they should ignore them and the fearful thoughts if they appear when there is no threat. They need to learn how to focus on what they want, let your children know that the more they worry and think about what they don't like or want the worst they will feel, but if they think about what they do want they will feel good.

Most parents do not really know how their children are feeling, just because they may appear OK on the outside does not give a true reflection on what's going on in their version of the world and how they are feeling on the inside.

Children have not got a clue how their mind and body works, they are born with a powerful mind and a complex body which is more powerful that any computer system yet they are not given any instructions on how to use it or how it functions.

The Early Years Are The Most Important

The early years of the development of children have a massive impact on their future happiness and success, many fears and troubles start in their early stages of their lives and unless they are dealt with they will remain with them indefinitely.

These days more and more children are spending longer hours playing video games, although they should be encouraged to have fun. When they are on a video game they are being bombarded with action pact graphic images which can hype them up and cause them to switch over into a state of stress.

The nervous system still responds negatively to these images with symptoms of stress and adrenaline, to make matters worst they are doing it from a sitting down position so they are not even using up all that extra energy.

Although they should not be discouraged from having fun, it is also advisable to make sure they still pursue and engage in plenty of physical activities and if you can encourage them to spend some time relaxing.

Don't Leave Your Children To Suffer In Silence

The latest and most sensible advice if you suspect all is not well with your child is to catch it and deal with it as early as possible but very few parents know how to help their suffering children leaving them feeling frustrated and helpless, yet unless you take matters into your own hands then your children will be left alone to suffer in silence.

Any traumatic or bad experience or the death of someone close them can cause them post traumatic stress and if your child experiences a traumatic event or experience at an early age then if they are not dealt with can go onto cause them problems.

Keep Your Child Safe But Don't Create Unnecessary Fears

Sometimes as parents we can be to over protective, yes you priority is to keep them safe but children are very impressionable to what we say and how we sometimes respond too situations, if you react fearfully to situations your child can learn to fear that same situation or thing.

Sometimes wanting to feel secure all the time breeds fear and it can keep you locked in your comfort zone. It maybe better to teach your children to learn how to evaluate the risks and if they though their is no real risks then teach them how to feel the feel and carry on.

It may be a better approach to explain to them and to calmly point out the potential hazards they may have to face rather than screaming and yelling at them which will leave them with a negative memory and a fear of that thing or situation.

Children need to know rights and wrongs and what is safe and dangerous, but if you are constantly warning them that everything is potentially dangerous then they will grow up to perceive their reality as a unsafe place.

There is far to much negativity on the telly and children's minds are constantly absorbing all of this negative information, the important part is, how you go about explaining things to your children and what tone of voice you use.

One example is, many parents drum it into their children that they must not talk to strangers because they might do bad things to them, but although it is important to get your message across and make them aware of the potential risks, by telling them not to talk to strangers is categorizing all strangers as being dangerous and they can grow up with a fear and difficulty to talk to or approach people they don't know.

It would be far better to tell them although most strangers are safe and can be trusted but learn them to avoid any stranger that are acting suspicious or telling them get in their car or come with them, they also need to know not to accept sweets or gifts from people they don't know or people who ask them for their help.

Learn them how to deal with suspicious strangers, you can practice what they should do if they are approached by someone acting with suspicious behaviours, most children have mobile phones so they can be useful should they be approached, but try to avoid making them fear all strangers. The same applies with other situations, they need good practical advice, but they don't need unnecessary scaring.

Separation Anxiety

Some children experience what is known as separation anxiety when they first start school, they have usually spent the first five years of their lives at the mercy and totally dependent on their parents especially the mother. Then all of a sudden they are thrown into this mysterious and sometimes frightening world of school.

Many things are probably going through the young child's mind including why their mother has suddenly abandoned them, pre-school is always a very important aspect of getting children to become socially interactive and used to being separated from their mothers.

Children with separation anxiety don't like their parents leaving them with other relatives or family members or friends, they may have fears about something bad happening to their parents are away. They may cry excessively or get angry when the parents are about to go and after they have gone.

Perhaps parents should be allowed to stay with their child for an hour or two of the early days of primary school so they can settle them down instead of just throwing them into an environment of which they are not used to which can seem a bit daunting and intimidating.

Turnaround The Completely Unique Approach For Treating Children's Anxiety

It is a clinically developed in-home audio treatment program that helps children overcome anxiety. Turnaround is based on the most effective treatment for child anxiety (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). The audio programs have been specifically designed for children.

The ideal part of this program is first it is an effective therapy to help children overcome their fears and anxiety, but the key thing is its format, children are seldom interested in any form of self help but the makers of this program have put it together in a therapeutic but fun story.

Turnaround invites a listening child to join six other anxious children on an imaginary 10-day camping adventure filled with fun characters, mentors, obstacles, laughter, and music that leads a child step-by-step through a powerful treatment plan.

The program speaks directly to children. The difference between this program and many conventional children's self-help teaching which is available current online such as children’s books and eBooks is most rely on the parent to do all the actual teaching and they just give you the information to follow leaving you to implement all the techniques which can be complex.

Turnaround is completely different. Parents can listen along if they choose, but it is targeted for a child listener. It is most effective for children ages 6-12. Kids tell us how much they love the characters and the entertaining stories.

They are personally invested in the story and treatment. It's a format that's truly unique and highly effective! These programs are just like everyday fun activities which children love.

Turnaround was written and produced by a practicing psychologist and a professional counselor. They has over 30 years of clinical experience between them. They are trained therapists who have successfully treated children and adults with anxiety disorders of all kinds. Turnaround has been professionally developed from top to bottom.

They have an impressive pedigree, the content was developed over a two-year period by professional therapists; the layout designed by an art director whose done work for Disney and Warner Bros studios and who won an award for his work on Turnaround.

The illustrations were drawn by a nationally recognized children's illustrator and the sound production mastered by a true professional who's used extensively by PBS.

This program was specifically designed to hold your child's attention so that they could learn the valuable information needed to conquer their fears. It is visually appealing, highly entertaining, and truly effective in treating child anxiety .
